This centuries-old fort known as Bastion Middleburg was located at the mouth of the river. It is served as the main place for trade activities that caused the Dutch to build a control tower or fort house in the 1660s.
This old fort is along the banks of the Melaka River between Stadthuys or more synonyms called Red House and a replica of the Melaka Sultanate Watermill.
Visitors passing through the front of the Stadhuys Building will be able to see the 0.09-hectare old fort that has been rebuilt.
The uniqueness of the laterite stone used and designs adapted from the old city or the original fortress, this Bastion Middleburg attracts a lot of domestic and foreign attention.
In addition to the fort using laterite stone, the old site is also decorated with eight barrel cannons weighing approximately 1.5 tons each.
