Kampung Kling Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Melaka built-in 1748 during the Dutch rule. The Kampung Kling Mosque is also known as the Kampung Pali or Balik Pali or Kampung Kapur mosque.

This mosque is located on Jalan Tukang Emas which is also known as Jalan Harmony or Temple Street because this road has multiple places of worship of other religions such as Cheng Hoon Teng Temple (Tao, Buddha) and Sri Poyyatha Vinayaga Moorthy Temple (Hindu). This mosque has a unique architectural beauty and has been influenced by several countries. Its function as a place of worship is still maintained and continues to be proof of the development of Islamic history in this country. Part of the mosque’s tower and its pulpit are influenced by Hindus while the lampposts and ablution places receive architectural influence from the Arabs. The pillars and prayer space of this mosque are also elements of Corinthian architecture.

The mosque is built in the shape of a square with three layers of roof, namely the verandah roof, the middle roof, and the main roof. The central roof is supported by four main series of pillars made of wood supported by laterite stone while the other 8 smaller pillars are used to support the structure of the second layer and the third layer of the triple roof. Above the roof is a dome carved with coral. Nowadays, the central roof and the main roof have been replaced with tiled rooves made of reinforcement strips like in Chinese temples. The walls on the inside are also fitted with tiles. In the middle of the mosque hangs a large and beautiful chandelier lamp.

However, the most interesting structure in this mosque is the tower because it resembles a Chinese pagoda. Unlike the wooden prayer room, the tower is built entirely of stone. Each layer of the tower is closed but the number of arched windows is different. Each side of the upper floor has two large arched windows and some smaller ones, the second floor has three small windows while the third has two on each side.

In 1868, high walls were built around the mosque. The walls open through a covered gate with a curved roof, adorned with three acroteria. The influence in the architecture and design of this place reflects how Malaysia has embraced many cultures that nurture history and tradition, and ultimately made it a nation as it is today.
